Camping and motorcycling

Postby dokterdave on 30 May 2010 12:04

In september I plan on riding to the Pyrenees for a week to ten days.
To keep costs down, nights under canvas are planned for most of the week.
The tent will allow me to go where I like and stop when I want.
Eating out rather than cooking for my self.

Camping is not new to me but it has been a while.
Any tips or things to be aware of would be helpful.

Any opinion of Lichfield tents.
I have £55 worth of Argos vouchers which would get me the Trek Lite 2

Seems very similar to the Vango Banshee

Update:-
Vango and Lichfield are brands owned by AMG

Hi

My opinion for what its worth, is NOT to go for the tents you are looking at in the above images. Two reasons. Leathers, Helmet, Boots take up a lot of room. and if it rains, there is no where to sit (crosslegged) and enjoy a cup of tea.

There are some good lightweight (4-5kg) tents with a sleeping quaters and a reasonable porch (with Double Entry). (large enough to sit in).

Look for a Two to Three Man "tunnel" tent rather than a Dome, generally are more robust if the weather goes pear shaped.

only tip is, if the porch doesn't close up at the bottom (which most dont), take an additional ground sheet, only large enough for the porch, and make sure its big enough to go up the sides of the tent., this way, precious gear wont get wet if the heavens open.

One final tip - places like Millets sell a toaster to put on a portable stove. these are brilliant for Toast for breakfast, are very lightweight and invaluable if you ask me. (bread is the easiest thing to get hold off, and store for a couple of days).

regards

Neil

Great deal on the Khyam Biker just now

http://www.khyam.co.uk/detail.asp?p=335

Just need to buy a ground sheet (£16), Ded easy and quick to erect. (I have one)

Plenty porch space for your gear plus three man sleeping space, I find it the perfect size.

and if you need spares or replacement bits n bobs for it - Tent Spares 01455213887 cheap and quick delivery

I'm just past all the camping stuff and my olde back needs a comfy bed these days.....cool tent though, but I think that in the time it took him to erect the tent (on a dry windless day)I could have removed the panniers and top box, and been in my room kicking back ;)
